Kingdom Impact

A Kingdom initiative that removes barriers, expands ministry capacity, and opens the PEFC to broader community use. We are uniquely positioned to meet a growing community need for gathering space.
Kingdom Impact Proposal
God has faithfully positioned our church to be a visible and life-giving presence in Princeton and the surrounding communities. As we look toward 2026 and beyond, we believe He is calling us to steward that opportunity with renewed clarity, courage, and vision. Our facility is more than a building: it’s a vehicle for ministry, a place of belonging for the broken, and a bridge for those who have not yet encountered the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. By investing intentionally in the development and readiness of our campus, we seek to remove barriers, create spaces where people are seen and known, and expand our capacity to make disciples. This isn’t simply a facilities initiative - it’s a Kingdom initiative, rooted in faith, guided by mission, and driven by the conviction that God desires to use this church as a lasting instrument of hope, welcome, and transformation in our community.

Proposal Summary
Princeton Evangelical Free Church (PEFC) is proposing a series of facility upgrades to strengthen its ability to serve the Princeton community. These improvements are not merely infrastructure maintenance, but a Kingdom initiative that removes barriers, expands ministry capacity, and opens the campus to broader community use. We are uniquely positioned to meet a growing community need for gathering space. Strategic improvements will help us reach our neighbors, welcome the broken, and grow together in Christ. After consulting an architectural firm in Fall 2025, PEFC has developed a phased improvement plan with a potential congregational vote scheduled for June 7, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions & Common Misunderstandings

The following FAQ was created from themes, questions, and concerns expressed in the recent congregational survey and the initial Family Informational Meeting. The goal is not to “win an argument,” but to listen carefully, clarify misunderstandings, and continue moving forward together with humility, wisdom, prayer, and unity.
1. “Is the church prioritizing a gym over ministry?”
No. One of the clearest themes from the survey was the desire to keep Christ and disciple-making central. Many expressed concern that a community gym could unintentionally become more recreational than spiritual in focus. Leadership shares that concern and agrees that any facility improvement must serve the mission of making disciples - not distract from it.

The proposed priority order reflects this:

   1. Septic
   2. HVAC / infrastructure
   3. Gym improvements

The gym portion is intentionally last because the foundational needs of the building come first.

The question is not: “Can a gym attract people?”
The real question is: “Can relationships formed through these spaces become opportunities for Gospel-centered discipleship?”

Leadership recognizes that simply getting people into a building does not automatically equal spiritual impact. That concern was heard clearly and taken seriously.
2. “Are the septic, HVAC, and well issues considered needs or wants?”
The overwhelming consensus from the survey was that the septic, HVAC, and water issues are essential needs.

Many respondents specifically affirmed:
   - fixing the septic system,
   - updating HVAC,
   - improving building reliability,
   - and addressing long-overdue maintenance needs.

Several members expressed concern that these critical needs should not be confused with optional improvements. Leadership agrees that foundational repairs are necessary stewardship responsibilities.

3. “Why discuss gym improvements at all if major repairs still exist?”
Some members expressed concern that discussing future gym improvements may feel premature while infrastructure repairs remain unfinished.

The current proposal is intended to present a long-term vision, not necessarily immediate execution of every phase at once. The infrastructure priorities remain first.

Additionally, some potential gifts or designated giving opportunities may be specifically tied to future ministry expansion rather than maintenance alone. Leadership wants to prayerfully discern how to steward all opportunities wisely without compromising essential responsibilities.
4. “How would a gym actually create Gospel impact?”
This question came up repeatedly:

   - What discipleship opportunities would exist?
   - How would relationships actually form?
   - What would be different from current gym usage?

These are important questions - not opposition.

Leadership recognizes that facilities alone do not make disciples. Ministry happens through people intentionally engaging others with the Gospel, hospitality, service, and relational investment.

The vision behind possible future gym improvements is not simply increased activity, but creating intentional ministry pathways to families, children, students, and the broader community.

At the same time, survey feedback revealed a desire for clearer explanation of:
   - how Gospel conversations would happen,
   - who would lead these efforts,
   - and what measurable ministry outcomes would look like.

Those clarifications still need continued discussion and future strategizing.
5. “Would this change the identity or culture of the church?”
Some respondents expressed concern about losing the church’s focus on discipleship, care, and spiritual growth.

Others worried about becoming:

   - attractional without discipleship,
   - activity-focused without spiritual depth,
   - or overly centered on athletics.

These concerns deserve thoughtful reflection.

The goal is not to become a different church, but to prayerfully consider how upgrading our current facilities can better support the mission God has already called the church to fulfill.
6. “Would participation or giving be expected from everyone?”
No.

The survey revealed that many members need:

   - more prayer,
   - more information,
   - more clarity,
   - and more time to discern their role.

Any invitation toward additional giving should always remain:

   - voluntary,
   - prayerful,
   - and free from pressure or guilt.

Several respondents also asked for clearer explanations regarding terms like “legacy gift” and overall financial transparency. A “legacy gift” would be defined as a one time gift above and beyond your regular tithe.
7. “What did the survey reveal most clearly?”
Several themes consistently emerged:

Strong agreement on:
   - fixing septic and HVAC needs,
   - caring for the existing building,
   - and practicing wise stewardship.

Ongoing questions about:
   - the gym vision,
   - Gospel impact,
   - volunteer capacity,
   - readiness,
   - and financial sustainability.

A strong desire for:
   - prayer,
   - unity,
   - transparency,
   - clear communication,
   - and careful discernment.
8. “Have we considered insurance, liability, and legal protections related to expanded gym usage?”
Yes. This was an important concern raised in the survey, especially regarding:
   - insurance coverage,
   - outside groups using the building,
   - liability risks,
   - and protecting the church’s doctrinal integrity.

Several months ago, leadership began researching these questions with our insurance provider in order to better understand:
   - what activities are covered,
   - what additional risks may exist,
   - what policy adjustments may be necessary,
   - and what protections should be in place before expanding usage of the facility.

This included evaluating:
   - outside rentals or partnerships,
   - sports and recreational activities,
   - supervision and safety requirements,
   - volunteer and staffing considerations,
   - scheduling policies,
   - and legal protections connected to building use.

Leadership also recognizes the importance of maintaining clear policies and constitutional protections so that any outside usage of the facility remains consistent with the church’s biblical convictions and ministry values.

The goal is not simply to open the building more often, but to steward the facility wisely, responsibly, and in a way that protects both the church body and the long-term ministry of the church.

Recently leadership made updates to our rental processes, in light of the gym or community usage vision potentially moving forward:
   - Based on our insurance carrier’s and their legal guidance:
   - appropriate policies and procedures have been updated,
   - expectations for outside groups have been redefined,
   - and a better understanding of the ongoing responsibilities connected to these opportunities.
9. “Are we financially stable enough to address these needs?”
Several survey responses expressed concern about the church budget, long-term financial stability, and the wisdom of taking on additional projects during a season of economic uncertainty.

Leadership understands and appreciates those concerns. At the same time, it may be helpful to clarify an important financial reality within the life of our church:

While weekly giving can fluctuate significantly from week to week - as is common in many churches - our quarterly and yearly giving patterns have consistently remained in line with what is needed as the Lord continues to provide faithfully.

This does not remove the need for wisdom, careful stewardship, or prudent planning. Rather, it reminds us that financial trends are often better evaluated over longer periods of time rather than isolated weeks.

Leadership remains committed to:
   - financial transparency including re-clarifying our giving  and spending numbers in our weekly updates,
   - responsible stewardship,
   - maintaining healthy ministry priorities,
   - and avoiding unnecessary financial strain.

The intent is not to move forward carelessly, but to prayerfully discern how to faithfully care for the ministries, people, and facilities God has entrusted to the church.

Final Encouragement

This survey revealed something important: people care deeply about the future of the church, the stewardship of resources, and the spiritual mission of the congregation.
Even where there are disagreements, many responses reflected a genuine desire to honor Christ faithfully.
As a church family, this is an opportunity not merely to discuss buildings or budgets, but to seek wisdom together, preserve unity, and ask:

“How can we best steward what God has entrusted to us for the sake of the Gospel?”
